SUMMARY:Stories of Free River & Wild Salmon
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of films centered on free-flowing rivers\, wild salmon\, and the energy choices that shape our future.\nStories of Free Rivers and Wild Salmon features screenings of two powerful short films\, The Super Salmon and Undammed\, followed by a panel discussion exploring the connections between energy development\, salmon\, and the true costs of traditional hydropower.\n📅 February 16\n⏰ 6:30–8:30 PM\n📍 Palmer Train Depot – 610 S Valley Way\, Palmer\, AK 99645\nHosted by the Susitna River Coalition.\nFree and open to the public.\nThe Super Salmon\nThe Super Salmon is an intimate and inspiring look into the impacts of the proposed Susitna-Watana dam on the Susitna River in south-central Alaska. The story outlines the threats posed by the Susitna Dam and the work of the Susitna River Coalition\, which is aimed at protecting our free-flowing\, healthy watershed so that future generations of salmon\, wildlife\, and humans can depend on it as we do today\nUndammed\nAfter witnessing a massive fish kill on her ancestral home waters\, Yurok tribal attorney Amy Bowers Cordalis dedicated her life to reversing the generations-long destruction wrought by the Klamath River dams. Undammed follows her journey to free the Klamath\, from testifying before Congress to passing down fishing traditions within her young family. Now that the Klamath dams are finally coming down\, she remains confident that the future of her tribe is bright. “It’s not a test\,” Bowers Cordalis says of the largest dam-removal project in US history. “It will work.”\nPalmer Train Depot\n610 S Valley Way\, Palmer\, AK
