Together\, let’s continue telling the stories that have shaped the Palmer of today. \n“Interpreting histories can be challenging and painful and requires an honest vulnerability\, however\, we must acknowledge and tell these stories to heal from past traumas and increase awareness so that past traumas are not repeated on future generations. Through knowing and sharing our stories we work to end historic and intergenerational trauma cycles and improve community understanding to create a healthier community together. \nThe First Peoples and first languages of Alaska were profoundly affected by Russian and European-American incursions beginning in the mid-17th century. For many Tribal citizens of Nay’dini’aa Na’ Kayax (Chickaloon Native Village)\, colonization policies and practices have intentionally and inadvertently separated them from parts of their Ahtna ancestral knowledge\, stories\, and language. For some\, years of forced acculturation have created distance from traditional lands and cultural lifeways that take place on those lands. \nTo make way for a healthier future\, the people of Nay’dini’aa Na’ Kayax are intentionally exploring their history and continue to live\, learn\, document\, and share their Ahtna language and cultural lifeways; relying on traditional Ahtna values and teachings to help present and future generations to thrive.”

DESCRIPTION:🎁 The 3rd Annual Used Toy Exchange Thing is back! 🎁\n📍 Palmer Train Depot\n📅 Monday\, December 8th | 5-8 PM\nAfter a couple years off\, one of That Thing Goin On’s favorite events is returning – this year in Palmer at the Train Depot! ✨\nHere’s how it works: in the weeks leading up to the event\, donation bins will be set up around town to collect gently used toys (this is a great opportunity for parents to clean out unused toys before the holidays and pass them on to families who will love them). Then on December 8th\, the Depot will be filled with “new-to-you” treasures – free for anyone to come browse and take home. You don’t need to donate to attend; as with all of our events\, they are open to everyone.\n💝 A few highlights:\n• A free gift wrapping station\, run by awesome volunteers so you can wrap your finds right away\n• A kids’ play area with parent volunteers so grown-ups can shop without little eyes peeking 👀\n• Did someone say SANTA? We couldn’t be more excited to announce that Santa will be in attendance and available for free family photos 🎅🏼!!\nWe would love for you to come be part of it – whether that means donating toys\, volunteering\, or just showing up and soaking in the community magic 🪄. Warm up by the bonfire\, or stop in the heated warming tent where you’ll find beer\, mulled wine\, hot spiced cider\, and festive mocktails\, along with live music performances from our Alaskan community.  Bring your family and enjoy the holiday festivities at the Fairgrounds with us! The drive-through holiday light display\, Bright Up the Night and the Christmas Factory events will also take place on the Fairgrounds.
